GREATER ACCRA METROPOLITAN AREA SANITATION AND WATER PROJECT (GAMA SWP)

 

DISCLOSURE OF RESETTLEMENT ACTION PLANS (RAPS) OF THE GREATER ACCRA METROPOLITAN AREA SANITATION AND WATER PROJECT (GAMA SWP) –BATCH ONE (1)

 

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) through its Project Planning and Development Department (PPD) is currently implementing the Water component of the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area Sanitation and Water Project (GAMA SWP) with a funding grant from the International Development Association (IDA).

 

The objective of the project is to increase access to improved sanitation and water supply in the GAMA, with emphasis on low-income communities and to strengthen management of environmental sanitation in the GAMA. As part of the strategies in achieving the improved water supply component, the GWCL has prepared Resettlement Action Plans (RAPs) in accordance with the National Resettlement Legislative requirements and the World Bank’s Involuntary Resettlement Operation Policy (O.P) 4.12. The RAPs are in respect of the Water Supply Civil Works sub-projects of the GAMA and shall be used as a guide in the payment of compensation to the Project Affected Persons (PAPs) in

 

     i.        Old Teshie (Ledzekuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly)

    ii.        Manmomo (Adenta Municipal Assembly)

  iii.        Gbegbeyise ( Accra Metropolitan Assembly)

   iv.       Glefe (Accra Metropolitan Assembly)

    v.        Chorkor (Accra Metropolitan Assembly)

  vi.        Mamponse (Accra Metropolitan Assembly)

 

The RAPs outline the identified impacts, nature of the impacts, the project affected persons, the PAPs’ entitlements, types of compensation (s) due them and grievance redress mechanisms which have been prepared in consultative manner.

 

Further details relating to the resettlement process and information on the RAPs and their entitlements can be found in the above mentioned documents which are now available at the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing (MWRWH), the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, Accra, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) offices, the participating Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, Area Councils, project communities, Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) Head Office, Accra, GWCL participating District Offices, Public Libraries of the participating Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies, Notice Boards of Project Communities, Palaces of Chiefs in Project communities and at the Info shop of the IDA (World Bank).
