The Ashanti North Region has a distribution network of about 722 km consisting of about 603km in the city districts and about 119km in the rural districts. The spatial coverage of the city districts is 75,704 ha and that of the rural districts is 31,450 ha.
There are minor systems at strategic locations such as Agona and Effiduase-Asokore which is under the Mampong district; likewise, Tepa which is under North West, Nkenkasu and Akomadan captured under Offinso district.
WATER SUPPLY IN ASHANTI NORTH REGION
The Ashanti North Region is served by Eight (8) water treatment plants comprising of five (5) surface water systems at Barekese, Owabi, Mampong, Aframso and Tanoso and three (3) borehole systems at Effiduase, Tepa and Agona.
Treated water is pumped from high-lift pumping stations at Barekese and Owabi treatment plants to serve Six (6) city Districts and most part of Offinso District. Primary storage of the water before distribution comprises 4No. storage tanks, 1No. elevated and 3No. Ground level at Suame. Distribution of water is carried out to some consumer areas directly from the reservoirs while part of the stored water further transmitted to other 2No. booster stations for further distribution to other consumer areas. There are three (3) Booster Stations namely Achiase, Pankrono and Buokrom and three (3) secondary service tanks at Nkawie, Offinso.
Mampong and environs are served by high lift pumping station at Mampong and whereas Kumawu and environs are served by high lift pumping station at Aframso. Nkenkasu and Akomadan which are part of Offinso District are also served by Tanoso Treatment Plant.
Customers are served mainly through house connections supplemented with public standpipes within the various sectors of the supply area.
